Most batteries contain hazardous materials such as cadmium and mercury which are toxic and ideally should not go in the dustbin. However an environmentally beneficial and economically feasible recycling or alternative disposal process has not yet been developed for household batteries.There is therefore no alternative at the moment but to dispose of them in your dustbin.
